Final-Year Internship: Improving a Pressure Solver for code_saturne

October 1, 2026

Are you passionate about scientific computing, numerical analysis, and high-performance computing? Join EDF’s R&D team in Chatou and contribute to the improvement of the linear solvers used in code_saturne, our open-source CFD software. 🎯 Objective: improve the performance and robustness of code_saturne’s pressure solver, which can account for a significant portion of the total simulation time. The internship will focus on analyzing the convergence behavior of the solvers, particularly the algebraic multigrid preconditioner, across a range of representative test cases. The work will help improve parameter tuning heuristics, enhance existing algorithms, and evaluate alternative approaches, such as two-level deflation methods. 🧑‍💻 Profile sought: Final-year engineering student or Master's student with knowledge of numerical analysis and the solution of partial differential equations. Previous experience with scientific computing software based on finite volume or finite element methods is recommended, as well as programming skills in C or C++ within a Linux environment. Autonomy, initiative, and strong communication and technical writing skills are essential. This work may serve as a first step toward a CIFRE PhD project dedicated to improving the performance of code_saturne’s linear solvers. 📍 Location: Chatou, France 🔗 Full job description and application: https://www.edf.fr/edf-recrute/offre/detail/2026-183197
